Description:

Fixed J rack kayak carrier transports your kayak on its side to minimize width and take up less space on the cross bars, allowing other cargo or carriers to be installed on the roof rack. Made of rugged carbon steel tubing with state-of-the-art weatherproof coating and rubber tube padding to protect your boat, this Kayak Car Rack comes with two 9.8’ padded tie-down straps to secure the boat to the carrier and two 18 ft. straps to secure the bow and stern of the boat to the vehicle. The carrier comes ready to install on cross bars. A fitting kit (not included) is required for installation on Heavy-Duty cross bars.

Does this work with a 2014 Subaru Outback?

It should work on most any vehicle that has cross rails. I have a Chrysler Town n Country, Dodge Durango, and Honda Odyssey. These fit on all three.
I actually purchased three sets for the new kayaks we just got. I put these on my 2005 Nissan Titan OEM Utili_Trac Racks. My truck racks are wider and a bit thicker than most racks. I had to get longer bolts (Note: metric bolts) to accommodate the thicker rack but was expecting to have to do that reading reviews of other products. Also saw some complaints about the straps, there not the heaviest duty but they hold just fine, I always run a secondary tie down for cargo anyway so the straps were just fine. Racks are easy to assemble and the strength of the racks seem just fine.

I purchased 2 sets of these J racks.
These racks have held up very well through 2 years of heavy Spring/Summer use. The straps that came with them have held up well also. Just make sure you tighten them don't twist them when securing the kayaks, because they may sustain wind damage.
